Aviation Wi-Fi Quiz
Lead Generation Tool
Project Summary
This quiz asks a series of short questions to determine which of the Viasat wi-fi solutions fits you best. I was tasked to design this quiz for two purposes. The first was to help potential Viasat Business Aviation customers determine which of the three Viasat wi-fi solutions would work best for them based on the type of plane they have and where they typically fly. The second purpose of this quiz was to generate leads for the Business Aviation team to follow up on.
My Role
UX Designer, Visual Designer
Timeline
July 2019 – August 2019
The design process for this project took place during my internship with Viasat, and at the end of my internship the project was passed off for development.

Common Understanding Session
In order to determine what we needed to create for this project and ensure everyone working on it was on the same page, we started out with a common understanding session. In this session, we gathered in a room and worked out the requirements for the project, who would be using the tool, the basic user flow and gathered any questions we couldn’t answer at that time.
Requirements
-
Attain contact information (name and email, aircraft type, and where they fly)
-
Attain other background information [activity on aircraft (i.e. streaming, texting, etc.), number of people on board and how long they fly, the role of the person inquiring (i.e. charter/fractional, owner, flight department, corporate), if they already have connectivity]
-
Simple, clean and easy to understand
-
Know how far along you are and how much you have left to do
-
Tool needs to be prominent on the page (above the fold)
-
Form to fill out contact information
-
Show the result and send an email at the same time (pops up a recommendation after they complete the quiz and emails the recommendation to them simultaneously with next steps included)
-
Only include aircraft that are supported by Viasat in drop down (have an ‘other’ option that routes them to an information page instead of recommending a Viasat solution)

Personas
We utilized existing personas for this project that aligned with the roles of predicted users.
Primary users
Flight Department

User Flow

Goals
-
Create a quick and simple way for potential customers to find out which wi-fi solution would be best for them.
-
Showcase the features and benefits of the Viasat Business Aviation wi-fi solutions.
-
Gather contact information of potential customers for the Business Aviation group to connect with.
Wireframes
After the common understanding session and creating a few quick sketches, I used Sketch to design wireframes for the lead generation tool. I also annotated the wireframes to explain the intended interactions, including hover and click states. Below is an example of the annotated wireframes.

Prototypes
Next, I created interactive prototypes for the lead generation tool with Sketch. During this process, I brought in the Viasat branding and colors that aligned with the Viasat digital style guide.

What I Learned / Takeaways
-
Effectiveness of starting a project with a common understanding session
-
Importance of annotated wireframes
-
Familiarity with Sketch
